IN LOVE WITH THE WORLD

Love songs sing out diverse kinds of love that some of them would obliviously dissolve into your heart. Leaving our own affairs behind, what would we learn if we apply the love songs to others, or even the world at large? “MacPherson Festival x Siu Fay ‘Love for the Entire Life’ featuring Patrick Lui” was held successfully in MacPherson Stadium, blending the voice of Siu Fay with the sound of piano played by Patrick Lui together. They used music as a bridge to talk about the faces of love in the world with all the audiences.

After the “Siu Fay's Bedtime Stories” project, Siu Fay once again departed himself from the music industry by holding this experimental concert. Thanks to the previous project, Siu Fay has found his direction and is now able to show the true side of himself in front of others. He also hopes to stay “Happy Together” with all of us. But is it sufficient to only care about ourselves? Certainly not. Since we live with all things in symbiosis, we should also feel affection for the world. Different from the ordinary concert, BFSH, the creative producer, handpicked various songs of other singers in order to tell more kinds of love stories. Presented in a tender, skillful way, this concert mainly included the voice of Siu Fay and the sound of piano—yet it is not synonymous with dull or mundane. The voice of Siu Fay expresses the vicissitudes of life, when juxtaposed with the piano played by Patrick Lui, gave a strong sense of poignancy and sweetness.

As the prelude of “Ferris Wheel of Happiness” started off, Siu Fay walked languidly onto the stage with his hands holding a toy Ferris wheel, as if happiness was spinning through the stadium. Being able to stick together through ups and downs is probably the happiest thing of all. Sadly, when a relationship turns sour, one would be terribly confused like the situation described in the song “The Unsettled Heart”. And if the relationship has ended, one would have to get used to single life like what is described in the song “After You Have Gone”. Siu Fay performed a number of well-known love songs and tried to remind us about the scars that love leaves us with. When he sang his most popular song “Pet”, a number of black and white photos of different pets flipped over behind him on the LED screen, conveying the sad feelings for the abandoned pets. With the photos of demolished homes and buildings, the song “Scattered Ashes and Dispersed Smoke” showed the pain and sorrow triggered by natural disasters and man-made catastrophes. In addition, the song “To All the Boys that I Have Loved” expressed the misplaced favor with the world leaders.

Entering the second part of the concert, a guitarist and string quartet joined the performance which took the concert up a notch. Vivian Chan was invited to be guest and she performed “Day and Night” with Siu Fay. Apart from Jason Chan and his wife, the celebrated singer-songwriter, Lowell Lo, also went to see the concert as few of his songs were performed by Siu Fay. The concert was ended with the song “A Promise”, so as to let the melancholy arrived at our hearts’ doors.

No matter what kind of love we are talking about, love itself is truly unforgettable. I am especially grateful for the performance of Siu Fay and Patrick Lui for letting us feel the love in the world.
