CHESSMAN DATE PROJECT PART.3
棋人DATE PROJECT PART.3

Rico Long, born on 10th July

Let’s do it!

Everyone we encounter in our lives can be our “life mentors”. We have different roles in society, and with the different life experiences we gained, we will develop our own philosophies of life. If we share our thoughts with others, we can enrich others’ lives too. Coming to the third part of “Chessman Date Project”, some of the Chessman Macau members will share with us their thoughts on the meaning of life.

“What is most important to you in life?”

Rico Long, born on 10th July

Remember to look forward.

The time unit of living, no matter if the interval is divided into years or days, “looking forward” is very important to me.

“I want to eat this and that for tomorrow’s breakfast…” These thoughts, as small and frivolous as they might be, are my little sources of motivation and calmness to get prepared for the following day at night. And I would fall asleep while I am thinking about it. Then the next day comes, I would enjoy the planned breakfast and take in every bite of tiny satisfaction, and would think about how I can get all things done that day. I will keep this feeling in mind and continue to look forward. I would still feel very good whatever the process and result may be, and how tired I am.

Next week’s gathering, next month’s party, next year’s trip…if we spend some time looking forward to all these activities, we will find that they are the sweeteners of our hectic daily lives. Life is also like this. As we keep looking forward to something either mentally or physically, we will be able to move closer to our goals, just like a magic. Even if we are always told that “things don't always work out as planned”, and that we will sometimes be attacked by disappointments and unexpected outcomes, simply remember to look forward. By doing this, we will gain endless motivations and happiness that help us to overcome every obstacle.

What is the most important thing in life?

To someone who has been living alone for a while, I believe the most important thing in life is, dare to be “Single”. (Note: this is not an advertorial for Germano Ku.)

Waking up in the morning, I would fix my eyes on the traces of my solitary life. Returning home from work, I can feel the sound of my breath and heartbeat pervading in this small space. Even if I get sick, I have to prepare the medicine, water and sports drink by myself before I can finally go to bed.

You may ask, isn’t it too lonely?

Not at all. Solitude helps us to withstand the test of years, and endure the passage of time. Humans are born to be individual entities. Although you will encounter a lot of good friends, you can only walk till the end of life with “you”, your own shell.

In the “life maps” of these several decades, trying hard to equip ourselves with this “skill”, which seems a bit sorrowful, may allow us to say goodbye with a smile in the end.

Ken So, born on 30th May

On 27th September 2018, I did something really crazy, and I promised to do it at least 104 times a year—it is, to do kickboxing in the morning at 6:30 am!

“Only by doing something different can we have different outcomes”

Health is what we always consider the most important by words, but often put in a low priority by actions. When the kickboxing practice starts at 6:30 am in the morning, the only excuse for not doing it would be that I keep dawdling in bed, right? Thus, I have started to do this crazy thing every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Life should be without any excuse and have some impossible challenges. Just do what others cannot, and you will have exceptional achievements!

Matthew Sam, born on 27th December

Attitude towards life.

If I have to use one word to describe myself in 2018, it would be “new”. New husband, new dad, new and innovative spirit, dare to try new things.

This year, I have done a lot of things that I have never experienced before. Especially since last month, I have started to go running at 7 am every morning. To a person who seldom does exercise like me, it is a “miracle”. I still remember on Day 1, I woke up at 6:30 am, and I started to feel exhausted after the 3K run because of having not enough sleep. But as I ran persistently till Day 8, I found that I was capable of running from my home in Taipa, to Praça de Ferreira do Amaral through the Old Bridge, and it was almost 4.5K. And until Day 21, it had become my habit, and I ran all the way to Hac Sa Beach in Coloane, a 10K run in one hour.

The interesting thing about outdoor running is that you will have to climb up the mountains and bridges, go through the ups and downs, in order to reach your destinations. The views, the people and the things we come across along the way are what we cannot see when we go for work and get off work in our daily lives.

Many of my friends asked, “Why do you wake up so early to run? Why do you keep doing it every day? Is it because of your wedding?” In fact, I do it for a better daily routine, a heathier body, so as to take up more responsibilities for my family.

Regardless of how many times you wanted to give up and stop doing it, if you stay persistent, you are going to nail it.

No reason and explanation needed. Friends, let’s do it!

The most important thing in life is to have an idol to look up to.

Some people say that idol is a kind of job that sells dream, youth and impetus, yet to me, idol is my source of motivation to chase my dream. Any one of their songs, any line of the lyrics, and even any single sentence they say, can also provide motivations for my life and encourage me to keep moving forward, so that I can be as brilliant as they do. Once I start to support my idols, I will support them up to the very end. Thirty years after, they would still be my favorite idols, and I would still want to be as gentle and brilliant like them.
